The history of Gunn, Shank & Stover dates to 1975 when Michael Gunn established his law practice in Clay County, Missouri.  Beginning in 1978, Michael practiced with Ward Stuckey until his appointment in 1981 as a circuit judge in Platte County, Missouri.  John Shank joined his practice with Michael's in 1981, and beginning in 1987 they practiced together with Larry Harman until he was appointed as a circuit judge in Clay County, Missouri, in 1994.  David Stover joined the firm of counsel in 1993 and became a shareholder in 1994, and Philip Krause joined the firm of counsel in 1996 and became a shareholder in 1997.

The firm's other lawyers range in experience and age, and they provide critical depth and breadth to the firm's practice.  These lawyers assume direct responsibility for client matters within their areas and levels of capability, which enhances the firm's ability to provide quality services on a cost-effective basis.

The firm's law offices are conveniently located in a modern business office park just off of Antioch Road, about ten minutes north of downtown Kansas City, and give its lawyers easy access to all the area courthouses.  The lawyers are supported in their practice by an experienced staff of five, including an office administrator, three legal secretaries and a receptionist.
